I was looking at lots of different programs on the net and stumbled across this, Bible in a Year. It caught my eye--reading a few chapters from the bible every day for a whole year. I had to admit there were lots of parts of the bible I never read and there were more times than I could count when an unknown to me bible story was discussed at church. Even more awkward--my girls had bible lessons I had to go over with them that I just did not know.
So last June, I cracked open Genesis I and 'In the beginning' and yesterday I finished with Revelations "Amen." Did I read everyday? No, there were times I got behind and had to do lots of catch-up (you get daily emails telling you where you need to be). Did I focus on every single word? Uh no, beside those catch-up days, there is a lot of begatting in the Old Testament.
I will say I did learn a lot. I was able to improve my faith and I did find some wonderful verses. Can I quote them to you off the top of my head? No but I did get the comfort for the verses. I also discovered I enjoyed a lot of the books I didn't think I would--James in particular. And I don't think I can read Revelations again--very graphic and terrifying.
And the funny part of all of this--it became a daily part of my life. Every morning before blogging or anything (unless I overslept), I read my chapters. Today I woke up with nothing to read. I guess it is time to find a new study.

:-)
I'm reading the New Testament every day, chapter by chapter, from "The Message".
My husband does this too, he just starts over again when he's done. He's on his fourth year of reading the bible.
If you haven't already joined a BSF, it sounds like you'd love it.
Congrats what a wonderful thing..
Wowie! You deserve a definite round of applause for reading the entire Bible and still keeping up with four kids!!
Good for you! I haven't read the Bible, and a bit embarrased to admit that. My kids attend the Sunday School every week. Therefore we are regular church goers. I really should start.
I admire you.
Love 'n' Hugs,

Wow! Good for you! My friend bought something similar for her husband last Christmas...he seems to be enjoying it. I read The Bible through ONE time when I was about 16. It was a challenge in our Youth Group...I honestly have to say though, I really just "read" and probably didn't learn as much as I would if I would read it through again at 36!You are right, there's a lot of begatting in the OT. Good for you for doing before you do ANYTHING else!
That is such a great idea!!! I bought the "Bible in a year" book but am ashamed to admit I did not get very far. But an email service that reminds you is genius! I am definitely heading there now to check it out.
Thanks for the tip! :)
i had one of those bibles in a year deal and i never got past it. i'm currently considering purchasing audio-bible so i can listen to it at work...
Did you read the King James? Why don't you read the Apocrypha and see what is different in it?
That's great! The awesome thing about the Bible is no matter how many times you read it, you still learn something amazing.
Very impressive! I average 2-3 years to get through.... ;)
Wow, that is great! Congratulations! It's been a while since I've taken time to read the bible, but you have inspired me. Thanks.
That's quite an accomplishment!
